2020 was a challenging year for choirs all over the world. More than ever before, we discovered that nothing can replace the unique joy and power of making full-voiced, un-masked, non-distanced music together while we bask in the energy of connecting with a live, in-person audience. We all eagerly await the day when we get to experience that again, and I don’t think any of us will be able to take it for granted.

2020 was also a transformative year for choirs all over the world, presenting us with unavoidable opportunities to deepen our creativity and develop new skill sets as we reimagined together what choir could be during that time. The process of artistic change is almost never easy, pretty, or predictable, but the growth that it can produce is profound. 

And 2020 was a growing year for the Upper School choirs at Principia School. The students were patient, positive, and persistent in rising to the challenges presented to them, and we each experienced undeniable growth whether or not we wanted to :-). I worked to give students more input into their learning experience that year; not only did they vote on almost every song we worked on, but they also came up with incredible ideas and worked together to produce remarkable content.
